This one is sad tho □ I hope no one gets offended or anything. He just let you sob in his arms, hoping that he could give you at least a little bit of comfort in spite of what you lost. He didn’t want you to hear his sobs, and if he opened his mouth to speak he knew he would just cry. You knew he couldn’t say anything to comfort you anyways, as he was crying pretty hard too. He just sat there and rubbed your back as you sobbed into his shirt. Dallas didn’t try to console you he knew that this was too much for you to lose. He wrapped an arm around you and let you lay on his chest in attempt to comfort you. You started sobbing and Dal hung his head. “Is he okay?”ĭal shook his head as he wiped his tears away. “Dally,” you said with your voice breaking. There were tears streaming down his face. “The doctor said cuz labor was pre term it was already high risk, and…” Dally couldn’t finish the sentence. “What’s wrong?”ĭal sat on the bed next to you and put your hands in his. He tried to smile, but you could see the sadness behind his eyes. You felt hot tears stream down your face and your mind ran wild.Ī few minutes later the door clicked open and Dallas walked in. You struggled to breathe in the empty room. None of the nurses respond to you as everyone left the room. “Where are you taking him?” you asked with a shaky voice. The doctor signaled for the nurses to take your baby away and asked to talk to Dallas in the hall. You felt your eyes swell with tears as you watched Dal talk to the doctor. He let go of your hand and walked over the the other side of the room where the doctor was with your baby. “I don’t know baby, I don’t know.” He said looking around the room. You looked up too and saw the doctor working on your baby from across the room. You saw Dal’s face fill with worry as he looked up and around the room. You were to dazed and tired to ask anyone what was going on, you just looked at Dal and attempted to smile.ĭallas smiled back at you and kissed your forehead, moving a piece of hair off your face. The nurses were rearranging the room and the doctor was barking instructions out at rapid fire speed. You gave one big last push and you saw everyone move around you. You were grateful that he was by your side this whole time though. You were too tired to respond to him or even smile at him. You cussed under your breath as you pushed again. The baby was stuck at a bad angle, And the doctors said it was too late for a c-section. Even though he came home tired and sore every day, he always came home and told you he loved you and asked how your day was. He hoped that eventually y’all would be able to get a bigger place in a nicer neighborhood. He had gotten a job and worked six days a week so you guys would have enough money to support a child. Dally was so excited to have a baby with you. You guys had gotten at the hospital last night, and you had been in labor for over 12 hours. It hurt with all you’re being to keep pushing, but there was promise of you and Dal’s baby at the end of it.ĭallas was right by your side, holding your hand and wiping your forehead. “Just one more push!” You heard the nurse say. Permaculture encourages people to “stack functions” which helps save space. While smaller properties are limited in some ways, such as not being able to keep large livestock (humanely), you can still do a lot. Their master plan ultimately include chickens, rabbits, a couple pigs, bees and a tiny house in the next couple of years.Įven with all of this in the works, they still have a bit of room to spare, though things are packed tightly and space is at a premium. They have an home, garage, orchard, garden, water harvesting earthworks, native garden and wild garden. Here are some homestead acreage examples with permaculture and sustainability in mind: Mini Homestead: 1.5 acres to 5Ī client of mine has been working on an incredible mini homestead on just 1.5 acres! Glad you asked, yes I can answer this from the homesteads I have been over the years! But can you give some examples of what one might be able to do on different size farms or homesteads? It take a bit of planning to figure out how much land I’ll need. I can hear you saying, alright Bret, I get it. Want to graze your own large livestock for milk or meat? You guessed it, you’ll need a lot more acres to do this than chickens.Īll this is not to say, you can’t have a very sustainable small homestead on just an acre or two, it just means there are some limitations that you can’t avoid on smaller properties.Īnd, to note: when I’m talking about self-sufficiency, I define it as growing and using as much from the land as possible, selling surpluses for cash to buy things we wouldn’t otherwise have.Īs our friends over at PrimalSurvial speak to in their post about self-sufficiency, it’s not very realistic unless you’re willing to live like a caveman, but what you can do is define what it means to you and work toward those goals. We do not buy compost because we are able to utilize our forest and harvest the incredible top soil provided by the oaks trees. The more land you have the more resources you have. The chickens are a perfect example again – feeding them naturally requires more space than feeding them processed feed.ĭo you want to provide your own firewood for heating? Then you need to have enough trees that to burn each year without depleting your forest. Generally speaking, the more sustainably and holistically you want to do things on your homestead, the more space you will require. Of course this will only be a guess to the best of your ability and may even change over time. Just like this chicken example, for every element you want on your land you need to determine the range of space it could take up, from little to most. Approximately every two weeks the fence and coop would be moved to fresh ground, not placing the chickens back on an old spot for at least a few months to let the plants regrow.ĭo you see how if your ideal chicken scenario is to free-range, you need couple acres of flat-ish pasture? And do you see how our simple question of how much space do I need for an element, like chickens, can have a wide range of answers? We went from 250 sq feet to 1-2 acres. On the other end of the chicken keeping spectrum would be a modified free-range approach using a portable electric fence and portable coop.Ī 160’ electric fence would enclose a space of about 2500 sq feet. Or you may have too many predators, causing you to loose your flock without a fully enclosed chicken run. For example, you might only have 1/2 acre of land. This might only take up a 200 square feet – quite small.įor some, this might be the ONLY option to keep chickens. The most basic setup would be an entirely enclosed coop and run (aka sacrifice zone). Let’s say you want to keep a flock of 8 laying hens for your family’s eggs. To better illustrate, let’s work with a common homestead animal: chickens. There are a lot of variables that dictate how much land you will need, based on everything you wish to have. When the set of arms is full (the fuller it is, the denser/fuller the pom-pom will be), have the yarn in your hand closest to the tab part of the arms that will be closest to the hinge of the second pair of arms when you close the arms wrapped in yarns. Try to do this as evenly as possible, working back and forth along the arm. Step 2: Hold the end of your yarn in place on one of the sets of arms and start wrapping the yarn around the set of arms. Step 1: Open your selected pom-pom maker so the arms are straight. A Sharp Pair of Scissors ( Clover Mini Patchwork Scissors work great for this and are what I’m using here).I’m using Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice worsted weight yarn (size 4) in Denim Mist. Clover Pom-Pom Maker (in your preferred size).Supplies You’ll Need to Follow Along With This Clover Pom-Pom Maker Tutorial: At the end of this post, I’ll include some free project tutorials that use Clover Pom-Pom Makers that you can use to practice using your new Pom-Pom Makers. They come in several different sizes as well so you can make different sized pom-poms to suit your needs. Using Clover Pom-Pom Makers, I can get quick, easy consistent results and to be honest, they make pom-pom making, a little addicting. Clover Pom-Pom Makers help solve all those problems. Without a pom-pom maker, pom-poms can be frustrating, tedious and hard to get consistent result. Pom-poms are one of those fun and quick projects to make that can be used to create (or added to) a wide variety of projects. I’m so excited to be invited back to the Clover blog to teach you all how to use a Clover Pom-Pom Maker. I held two yarns together as I wound them around the pompom maker.Hi Everyone! I’m Ashley, the designer and maker behind The Loopy Lamb. You can hold two (or more!) different colours at the same time to get a multicoloured pompom. For this one I held a metallic embroidery thread double with the red yarn for a sparkly festive effect. Generally speaking, the smaller the pompom, the smaller the maximum thickness yarn you can use, if you use anything too big you will run out of room and end up with a very sparse looking pom pom!Īdd other fun fibres in with your yarn for contrast. Can you tell which is which? 4 ply is on the left! The 4 ply one takes longer to make, but because there are more cut ends in the same size pompom, it has a smoother and denser feeling. Here are two pompoms made with the same Clover maker, using the same colour yarn, but in 4 ply/fingering and 8 ply/DK. You can change the thickness of the yarn to get a different density. There are so many ways you can make your pompoms unique and suitable for whatever you want to do with them! However it also doesn’t require you to be able to draw two circles of the right diameter, so it is super easy to get started! This formerly oblong pompom has been trimmed to the right size. It needed more trimming than other techniques to get a nice shape. I found that this technique made a more unevenly shaped pompom fresh off the cardboard. Freshly cut, and more of a pom-oblong A pompom in need of a haircut Fully loaded rectangular pompom form View from above Don’t forget to tie it off! Tied off ballĬut through your loops at both sides, and then shape your pompom. If you didn’t add the slot and yarn, you can slide the bundle off and tie it after you have removed it. Once you have finished winding, tie the piece of yarn you slid through the slot at the beginning around the middle of your yarn. Don’t wind too tight or you will start to collapse the cardboard. Then cut a 10cm length of yarn and slide into the slot you’ve created. I recommend cutting a partial slit from one end of the cardboard to the midpoint. You’ll need lots of extra yarn to accommodate trimming it down to the right shape. Cut a single rectangle that is a bit wider than your desired size. Egan and Grosso served as technical advisers on set for the entirety of production, as well as both acting in small cameos in the film. To aid with this, he brought on Eddie Egan and Sonny Grosso, the NYPD detectives who provided the inspiration for the film’s protagonists, Detective “Popeye” Doyle (played by Gene Hackman) and his partner Buddy “Cloudy” Russo (played by Roy Scheider). While Friedkin took some liberties with the film, including its iconic car chase, he was committed to keeping the story fairly realistic. Two years later, director William Friedkin’s Oscar-winning film of the same name debuted, with a slightly fictionalized twist on the thrilling real-life drug seizures. yearly, prompting then-President Richard Nixon to dramatically crack down on drugs-and providing plenty of fodder for Robin Moore’s 1969 nonfiction book about some of the NYPD’s busts during the time, The French Connection. By the 1960s, up to 44 tons were being moved in the U.S. The complex drug trafficking scheme known as the French Connection was cooked up by Corsican gangsters in the 1930s: poppy seeds were shipped from Turkey and Lebanon to Marseille, a major French seaport, where they were processed into heroin, before being shipped out to U.S. “Beautifully crafted and impeccably acted,” Reidy says, “ Selma offers a memorable tribute to the ordinary people whose extraordinary courage helped to reinforce a basic right of American democracy: the vote.” - Suyin Haynes Johnson to condemn the violence inflicted on the marchers. Reidy, Emeritus Professor of History at Howard University, the film’s strength lies in both depicting the debates between leaders like King and John Lewis, and the stories of unsung local heroes “immortalized in contemporary newsreels,” which fueled public outrage and forced President Lyndon B. These events are the backdrop for the Ava DuVernay-directed film Selma, which, with its re-creation of the months leading up to the marches, illustrates the complexities of social justice movements and their leaders. But the protesters (led by Martin Luther King Jr., John Lewis, Hosea Williams and other civil rights leaders) did not give up. The day would-known as “Bloody Sunday,” after 17 marchers were hospitalized and 50 treated for lesser injuries-would become a key moment in the fight against racist voter suppression in the U.S., as televised images of the attacks on the marchers stunned the country. On March 7, 1965, as voting-rights demonstrators attempted to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Ala., during a march to the state capital in Montgomery, they were met by heavily armed police. And the more we learn about them, the more we want to learn. Their lives may be very different from our own, yet the movie screen opens a portal between us. Heroes of investigative journalism, bank robbers and mob informants and gunslingers, ordinary citizens who fought for justice: These people can come to seem more real to us through movies. In order to qualify, the central story in a film must be at least inspired by a real story that happened to real people-not just a fictional story set against a real backdrop-and a central character based on a real person must do things that his or her real-life counterpart actually did. Each of us can live only one life, but movies that draw on history are windows into the selves that we might have been, had we been born in another time or place or circumstance.įollowing is our list of the top 10 movies based on a true story, as chosen by TIME staff and a select group of historians. To see cities and towns recreated as they were 20, 50 or 100 years ago, to look at the clothes people wore, to hear patterns of speech that have since become outmoded: all of these things remind us that the past was a real place, peopled with human beings who cared about the same things we do, who faced challenges that nearly broke them and who found delight in the same joys we ourselves treasure. And movies based on true stories put us in touch with the past in a visceral way. Sometimes we’re drawn to the library or bookstore, so we can read more about what really happened. But a vivid, enveloping film can draw us close to the spirit of an event or a person in ways that make us want to expand our view. But climate inaction is vastly more expensive. Climate action requires significant financial investments by governments and businesses.

Attach a coarse grade sanding disc onto the EZ Drum Mandrel and lock it into place on the rotary tool. Sand the 1×2 Board: Depending on the cut of wood, you’ll likely need to start with one of the coarse grade sanding discs and work your way to the finest one.Note: While you’re gathering materials, make sure your Micro is on the charger (or already charged). 4 Caged necklace pendants (I picked these up at Michael’s, and it looks like they’re only available in stores.).No more frantic key searching for this gal! If you too need to organize your home’s key situation, check out the modern key holder solution I made for my entry. Normally making a wall-mounted key holder with key chain slots & recessed keyhole hangers would require 3 big-daddy tools: belt sander, mitre saw and router, but instead I’m simplifying things and using the Dremel 8050 Micro, a handheld rotary tool that satisfies all 3 tool needs in one. Key Storage in the Entry.īecause our entry is a small space, I knew the key holder had to be wall mounted, and I found inspiration in this only-sold-in-Danish-stores key holder. So when Dremel challenged me to share a small space solution as part of their month-long August Maker Days (more on this in a bit!), it was a no-brainer which area to tackle. The story starts with letting us know that Ichinose Shiki (the mc) is a trouble maker, always making trouble for his old man and everyone around him and If it's done in a good way generic can also be good as seen from almost every new gen shounen. SO first of all the plot is very generic, but generic doesn't mean bad. So It's been a while since I started reading this and I've wanted to write a review but I just couldn't find the right words to help me convey what I feel about this manga. Before Shiki can avenge his father, he must learn to control his headstrong and impulsive nature and, above all, fight against his own demonic blood. Shiki's momentary outburst attracts the attention of Naito Mudano, an Oni teacher at the Rakshasa Academy-an institution for young Oni in need of understanding and perfecting their powers. As he gives up his life to save Shiki and confesses everything in his dying breath, Shiki's Oni blood awakens for the first time, transforming him into an unruly monster overflowing with rage and a thirst for revenge. As a Momotarou himself, Tsuyoshi has been hiding Shiki for years and keeping his Oni origins a secret even from him. Tsuyoshi's selfless love is soon shown in an explosive incident when a Momotarou barges in looking for Shiki. Despite Shiki's rebellious attitude, his foster father, Tsuyoshi, cares about him deeply. Shiki Ichinose is a reckless and irresponsible teenager, aware of his defiance and even proud of his expulsion from school.
